For the third year in a row, we’re walking for access to justice!

For the third year in a row, Detention Action is proud to join the London Legal Walk. On 9 June 2026, our team is walking 10km to support access to justice.

Over the past decade, we have witnessed first-hand how the legal aid system fails people in detention.

The current legal aid system is failing, leaving solicitors with impossibly high caseloads. People in detention often need to wait for weeks just to receive a 30-minute legal appointment with no promise of further representation.

Everyone has the right to be treated equally under the law, regardless of where they were born or whether they’re detained. But without quality legal advice, accessing these rights and navigating detention is almost impossible. But there is hope.

Here at Detention Action, we connect people with quality legal advice and inform them of their rights in a language they understand. Our practical and emotional support helps individuals feel empowered to make decisions about their case.

Last year, we successfully referred 152 people to reliable solicitors and specialist organisations that support people with bail, asylum, and more. And, we’ve been raising awareness of the injustices faced by people in detention at all levels.

We offer all of this for free – but we need community donations to keep our life-saving services running.

On 9 June, our team will be walking 10 km to raise money for access to justice in detention. We need your support to ensure that individuals in detention can access the quality legal advice they urgently need.

Every year, the London Legal Walk brings together hundreds of charities and thousands of community members with the goal of ensuring access to legal advice for all who need it.

Hear from Bushra, one of our valued trustees, about why he’s walking this year:

I’m proud to be taking part in the London Legal Walk to support the vital organisations working to ensure that everyone can access justice, regardless of their circumstances.

A donation of just £19 could cover the costs of visiting a person inside detention. Every pound–and every step–makes a difference!
