7th January Event feat. Freed Voices: Migration – the Inside Story


Freed Voices members will offering their thoughts, reflections and expertise at this special event tomorrow evening organized by Entitled Magazine and SOAS Solidarity with Refugees and Displaced People Society.

The event looks to challenge conventional media depictions of migrants in the UK, instead focusing on those individuals at the heart of the issue. Freed Voices will be speaking specifically about their time in immigration detention in the UK.

Other speakers include Don Flynn, Director, Migrants’ Rights Network; Dr. Gabriella Elgenius, subject lecturer, Centre of Migration & Diaspora Studies SOAS; Abdulaziz Almashi, Co- founder of the Syria Solidarity Movement, Co-founder of Solidarity with Refugees, Co- founder of EU-Solidarity with Refugees and organizer of the Solidarity with Refugees march (12th September 2015); Orzola Ashraf Nemat- Governance and Civil Society Expert (AREU); Emily Churchill Zaraa, Refugee Week Coordinator, Counterpoint Arts; and Dr John Campbell, Reader in the Anthropology of Africa and Law, SOAS.

The event is free and pen to all, no registration needed.

19:15 to 19:25 Break (Free Refreshments will be provided)
19:25 to 21:00 Refugees and Asylum discussion
